Bathtub Beach is a secluded white-sandy beach situated along the Kamehameha highway on Oahu’s north shore. Compared to the madness and crowds of the Waikiki area, this beach offers a more laid-back vibe to help you get a feel for what Oahu is really about. The beach is commonly known by its local name Lāʻielohelohe (Laie) Beach Park or Pounder’s Beach.
What does the beach offer?
The beach has a picturesque cliff on the right side, offering a stunning view of the island’s windward side, Kaneohe Bay. Swimming is more suitable for experienced swimmers. The waves can be rough, making it a fun spot for bodyboarding. Surfers usually enjoy surfing near the cliffs, as the waves are higher. If you’re a surfer or bodyboarder, you can check the tide tables for Bathtub beach here! There is a little body of water down the beach where you can swing on a rope.
Is Bathtub beach family-friendly?
Bathtub beach is perfect for kids! The rock formations create a natural pool that shelters swimmers from the waves, hence the name Bathtub Beach. Kids can enjoy playing and exploring the tide pool. Many kids also enjoy all the different crabs that roam and dig around in the wet sand. The pallid ghost crabs are especially playful. Make sure to visit during low tide. Beware, though, that there are no lifeguards present at the beach.

It is pretty easy to get to the beach. Park at Laie Beach Park, or you can also type in Pounder’s Beach Parking Lot on your maps, walk up north for about 5 minutes and turn the corner. You can also park and use the toilet near Kolao stream.
