Lanai is a small but spectacular island located off the coast of Maui. It is home to some of the most beautiful tide pools in Hawaii. The ideal time to visit these tide pools is during the morning, when the tide is low. This lets you get close up with endemic fish and coral reefs. The tide pools on Lanai are worth visiting because:

Lava tide pools near Hulopo’e Beach Park
The tide pools on Lanai are located on the east side of the island, and they are accessible by a short hike from Hulopo’e Beach Park. Many visitors simply stop at the beach and then turn back, but the hike to the tide pools is always worth it. There is a great mix of tide pools that range from deep to shallow and still to turbulent. They contain a mixture of both salt and freshwater, which feels very refreshing on a hot day. The spot is also popular with locals swimming there during the evening, which is always a telltale sign of having stumbled upon a slice of paradise!
Spotting animals
Coral reefs surround the tide pools. The tide pools are also home to various colorful fish, including parrotfish, triggerfish, and damselfish. Doplhins and sea turtles are often seen scouring the bay, but they usually keep their distance from the shore.
Watching the sunset
The tide pools offer breathtaking views of the ocean, but they face the ocean eastwards, so you won’t be able to enjoy floating in the pools while watching the sunset. If you want a stunning view, you can hike up a cliff nearby to get to Sweetheart Rock.
Exact location
To get to the tide pools, you need to get to Hulopo’e Beach Park. This beach is a 5-minute drive from Manele Bay and directly next to the Four Seasons hotel. It’s also close to the ferry.
How to check if it’s low tide on Lanai?
As mentioned, timing is key when visiting the tide pools near Hulupoe Beach. You will want to come during low tide. You can check here when the tide will be low.
